Enjoy the test experience

Having the All Blacks play a Test in Nelson is the biggest sporting event to happen in our region since the Rugby World Cup. Match day itself is chock full of great things to see and do close to Trafalgar Park. There is a free NBS service to and from Nelson. Our advice is get in early – Gates Open at 5.30pm, teams are warming up at 6.45pm.

Club Rugby

The senior club rugby season has culminated with the awarding of the NPD Tasman Trophy Player of the Year to Mike Curry of Moutere. His excellent play throughout the season has resulted in his selection in the Tasman Mako wider training group.

Tickets are now on sale for the Tasman Mako home matches in the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup. We kick off Friday week (17 August, 7.35pm) with a 2017 Premiership Final Replay against regional rivals Canterbury at Lansdowne Park, Blenheim.

Congratulations to Canterbury on winning the Premiership Final

In the end, Canterbury were just too strong and too good, prevailing 35 – 13 on Saturday night in Christchurch.

In business, success stems from leadership and talent development. The same applies to a sports team. This year we have been very fortunate to have the coaching team of Leo Crowley, Greg Somerville, Andrew Goodman & Leon MacDonald working with our players.

Tasman Women Awards

Winners are Grinners - Following an historic first win in the Farah Palmer Cup, 24 – 12 over Hawkes Bay, the Tasman Women held their inaugural Season Awards. Recipients were Jess Foster, Rosie Buchanan – Brown, Hannah Gillespie & Wairakau Greig.

Makos News & Awards

Two of our Mako men secured their 50 Games Blazer this season. Vernon Fredericks (Mako # 81) earned his against Otago while Billy Guyton (# 113) brought up 50 against Auckland on the weekend.

Meet the coaches

Leo Crowley joined us this season as the assistant coach with the Makos. He’s from the ‘Naki where he coached provincial rugby and has also had Rugby World Cup coaching experience with Canada.
