Makos sign former CBHS star Will Jordan

The Tasman Makos have signed a promising outside back out of Canterbury.

Former Christchurch Boys' High School First XV star Will Jordan, who turned 19 on Friday, has joined Tasman for the upcoming Mitre 10 Cup season.

He has signed a two-year contract.

Tasman chief executive Tony Lewis said Jordan, a strong running fullback with a knack of scoring tries, had been on their radar for the past two years.

He was a standout performer for the Christchurch Boys' High School First XV in 2015, scoring 19 tries in 11 games to finish the UC Championship as the competition's leading try-scorer.

"He's a big, fast, skillful fullback who we have been watching for some time. When he was at Christchurch Boys' we watched him carefully and last year when he was playing for Canterbury under-19s," Lewis said.

"He's got all the attacking flair you'd want in a Makos fullback."

Though he could be seen as a longer-term project, Lewis believed Jordan would be ready to go should he make his debut in 2017.

Lewis said the signing was another example of the strong relationship Tasman have with the Crusaders, who played a key role in the signing and see him as a future Super Rugby prospect.

"We've worked together to ensure this guy is not lost to the region and he's going to be playing rugby at the highest level as soon as he's capable."

Jordan, who is also a gifted cricketer and scored a century in the Gillette Cup national tournament, was recently named in the Crusaders Knights development team and is currently trialling for the New Zealand under-20 squad.

He will remain in Christchurch until June and will feature in the second half of the club rugby season for a team in either Nelson or Marlborough.

Jordan's signature follows the high-profile capture of explosive Crusaders loose forward Jordan Taufua.
