2016 Makos Squad

The Tasman Makos coaches and management have named a squad of 32 players to contest the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup Premiership. The team is split between 17 forwards and 15 backs and will be captained by Shane Christie.

The Tasman Makos season has come to an end following a fairly comprehensive defeat at the hands of Auckland in our Premiership semi-final at Eden Park. Congratulations to Auckland, they were too big, too strong, too fast and too good on the day.

Tasman Players celebrated their end of season Awards night. Following the Taranaki match the team regrouped in Nelson for the annual Player Awards evening, hosted by Murray Leaning and Joe Wheeler on Friday night.

Hi Makos FINatics. Last Thursday night our Mighty Makos got their season back on track with a spirited victory over last season’s Premiers, Taranaki by 35 – 17. Tasman will now play second seeded Auckland in a Premiership Semi-Final at Eden Park this Friday night at 7.35pm.

Hi Makos FINatics. Saturday’s match against Canterbury was a great occasion for the over 7,000 fans who got out to enjoy a glorious Nelson sunny afternoon. Everyone was in fine voice and enjoyed the family day atmosphere and activities.

Hi Makos FINatics. The tough aspect of the ITM Cup is to fit 10 regular season matches in to nine weeks. This calls for each Union to play 3 matches between two weekends, and this week it is our turn. Wellington last Friday, North Harbour last night and then Auckland in Blenheim on Sunday.
