Ethan made his Mako debut in 2016 and has featured prominently as a loose forward with an exceptional work rate and strong lineout capability. He enjoyed a breakout year in Super Rugby in 2017 being named Crusaders Rookie of the Year and is a regular team member.

Ethan played in the 2019 NPC Premiership victory. Unfortunately an injury in the 2019 Super Rugby competition ruled him out of the 2020 campaign. An outstanding season for the Crusaders culminated with Ethan being named as All Black # 1195, making his debut against Tonga in July 2021. Selection to the 2021 All Blacks norther hemisphere tour precluded him making any Mako appearances in 2021, while an injury sustained during 2022 Super Rugby precluded his selection for the Mako and All Blacks.
