Independent Director – Tasman Rugby Union Inc

The Tasman Rugby Union (TRU) invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified Directors to join the Board as an Independent Director.

The TRU Board is responsible for the Governance and custodianship of the game in Te Tauihu. NZ Rugby and TRU currently face a number of challenges and opportunities across all facets of the game.  For TRU this includes the imminent appointment of a new CE, a refreshed Strategic Plan to be operationalised and risks across traditional revenue streams.

The Board has developed a Skills and Expertise Framework. Based on this, key skills the TRU is seeking at this time are:

• Experienced Director on NFP and Commercial Boards

• Commercial revenue generation and Stakeholder relationships

• Development Pathways & High performance sport

• Risk Management

• Marketing and Digital communications

The Board is made up of 7 Directors, 4 elected from the Council of Delegates (Clubs in the Nelson and  Marlborough Regions) and 3 Independent Directors. All 3 Independent Director roles are up for renewal due to terms of two Directors expiring and a vacancy. The two incumbent Independent Directors will be seeking a further term.

This is a voluntary role, with expenses reimbursed. Successful applicants will become a member of the  Institute of Directors under the TRU’s Whole of Board membership.
